Uji Hojicha is harvested from renowned family-run gardens located in Uji, Kyoto Prefecture, the historic heartland of Japanese tea culture. Sustainably managed and committed to organic principles, these small farms prioritize traditional methods, handpicked harvests, and minimal intervention practices. Each batch is carefully roasted on-site to guarantee peak freshness and authentic character, embodying the spirit of Japanese craftsmanship.

Uji Hojicha greets with a warm, toasted aroma and a mellow, nutty flavor profile. The roasting process transforms the green leaves into a rich, amber brew with smooth notes of caramel, chestnut, and lightly smoky undertones.

Low in bitterness and naturally low in caffeine, this tea offers a perfect, comforting experience. The lingering sweet finish invites repeated sipping and pairs beautifully with subtle desserts or savory dishes.

Harvested in late summer to early autumn, only mature leaves and stems are selected for roasting. The meticulous handpicking process preserves leaf integrity and enables precise roasting outcomes.

Each batch undergoes low-temperature roasting, amplifying natural sugars while reducing astringency and caffeine content. Uji's fertile soils, fresh river water, and temperate climate support thriving tea plants and consistent quality season after season.

Harvest Year: 2025

For a classic cup of Uji Hojicha:

  • Use 2g of tea per 180ml of water.
  • Brew with hot water at 85–90°C (185–194°F).
  • Steep for 60 seconds to extract layered flavors without bitterness.
  • Enjoy straight, or experiment with milk for a hojicha latte.
  • Re-steep leaves for a lighter, more aromatic second infusion.
