The Darjeeling Second Flush, 2026 Story

There's a narrow window each summer when Darjeeling produces something no other tea region on earth can replicate. The days grow long and warm, the nights stay cool at altitude, and the tea bushes respond with leaves that carry a natural grape-like sweetness the industry calls muscatel. Miss the window, and it's gone for another year.

Okayti Tea Estate has been catching that window since 1870. One of Darjeeling's oldest gardens, The estate sits high on slopes where the soil has had over a century to develop character — and you can taste it. Each second-flush leaf is hand-plucked at peak maturity and processed on-site using methods the estate has refined across generations: slow withering, careful oxidation, nothing rushed.

The result is a black tea with unmistakable muscatel depth - honeyed, aromatic, layered with ripe fruit - and a clean, lingering finish with no bitterness. The whole leaf stays intact. We do not blend with other teas. This is straight from the estate to your teacup

This is Darjeeling the way it was meant to be tasted — from a single estate, a single harvest, with 150 years of craft in every cup. Rainforest Alliance certified and USDA Organic

Frequently Asked Questions

It's a leaf grade, not a flavor. Orange Pekoe refers to whole, unbroken tea leaves — the highest standard of leaf integrity. It means you're getting the real thing, not dust or fannings.
Darjeeling tea is harvested in seasonal flushes. The second flush comes in early summer, when warmer temperatures produce bolder, more complex flavors — including the muscatel character Darjeeling is famous for.
Use water just off the boil — 195 to 205°F — and steep for 3–5 minutes. Start shorter for a brighter, lighter cup. Go longer for more body and depth. Always drink it straight first.
Yes, whole-leaf Darjeeling handles 2–3 infusions well. The second steep tends to bring out more of the honey and fruit notes as the leaf opens fully.
A natural grape-like sweetness unique to Darjeeling's second flush. It comes from the combination of altitude, temperature swings, and specific cultivars — not added flavoring.
Yes. Okayti Tea Estate follows traditional cultivation methods on the historic slopes of Darjeeling. Every batch is sourced with full traceability to the estate and flush season.
Most commercial Darjeeling is blended from multiple gardens and harvests to create a uniform product. This is a single-estate, single-flush whole-leaf tea from Okayti — one of Darjeeling's oldest gardens. The difference in clarity and complexity is immediately noticeable.
