The Himalayan Mountain Black Tea Story

Meghalaya means "abode of clouds," and in the village of Jyntru, you feel it — mist settles over the hills before sunrise and doesn't fully lift until midday. It's here that Marbah works a small family tea garden first planted by his grandfather, nestled between forest and mountain at the edge of India's northeastern highlands.

Black tea from this region is uncommon. Most Meghalayan gardens focus on green tea, but Marbah takes his whole leaves through a full, slow oxidation — unhurried compared to the industrial pace of Assam's CTC factories. The extra time transforms the leaf: building malt, deepening aroma, rounding out the body without tipping into bitterness.

Every step happens at his Delmar Tea Garden — withering, rolling, oxidation, drying — under Marbah's direct oversight. No blending with anonymous lots. No broken leaves or dust. What reaches your cup is the same intact leaf he picked by hand, carrying the character of that specific soil, altitude, and season.

Certified organic under India's NPOP standards. Independently lab-tested for pesticides and heavy metals.

Frequently Asked Questions

It's a whole-leaf tea from a single family garden in Meghalaya's Eastern Himalayas. The slow oxidation and intact leaves produce a smooth, malty cup without the bitterness or astringency of mass-produced black teas.
Steep 1 tsp in freshly boiled water (200–210°F) for 3–5 minutes. Drink it straight to taste the natural malt and sweetness, or add a splash of milk for a fuller body.
Yes, whole-leaf tea holds up well across 2–3 steeps. The second infusion often opens up more sweetness and aroma as the leaf fully unfurls.
Most commercial black teas use CTC or broken-leaf processing, which brews fast but tastes harsh. Whole-leaf tea steeps slower and smoother, giving you a richer, cleaner cup with more complexity.
