The Pampore Saffron Story

Avi is a third-generation saffron farmer in Pampore, Kashmir โ€” the valley where this 'red gold' has been cultivated for over 500 years. Each fall, his family hand-picks the delicate crimson threads at dawn, when the flowers are still closed. At 8.7% crocin content, this is saffron at its most potent: deep color, sweet aroma, and flavor that Spanish and Iranian varieties can't match.

Frequently Asked Questions

Crocus sativus. Each flower produces just three red stigmas โ€” the saffron threads โ€” which are hand-picked at dawn before the sun wilts the blooms.
Pampore's high altitude, cool climate, and karewa soil produce saffron with exceptional safranal and crocin levels. Ours tests at 39.78 safranal and 170 crocin โ€” well above international standards.
Safranal gives saffron its aroma, crocin its color. Higher numbers mean more potent saffron. ISO Grade I requires minimum 20 safranal and 190 crocin โ€” our saffron exceeds on aroma with a deep color profile.
Real saffron threads are deep red with slightly lighter orange tips. They release color slowly in water โ€” if it turns yellow instantly, it's dyed. Our saffron is lab-tested and sourced directly from Pampore farmers.
Steep 3-5 threads in warm milk or water for 10-15 minutes before adding to your dish. This blooms the flavor and releases the golden color. A little goes a long way.
Keep threads in an airtight container away from light, heat, and moisture. Stored properly, saffron maintains potency for 2-3 years โ€” though once you have the real thing, it won't last that long.
